Summer Camp Details & FAQs
CHECK-IN
- You will receive a specific check-in time for you or your team.- Have a coach or 1 person check in for you
- Check in is at Naismith Hall
- Commuters will check in at designated time given after registration is received
- Final Exhibition will be in TBD,
- Parents can arrive no earlier than ½ before exhibition start.
- Parking for exhibition is available around the Baseball stadium.
CONDUCT
- Campers are expected to encourage and be supportive of other Campers.- Lights out and practice times will be observed.
- Campers will not leave dorm unless escorted by coach, staff or parent.
- Campers will remain on designated floors and main floor.
- KU staff will stay on each floor for supervision and Cat Jarzemkoski will stay in facility.
WHAT TO BRING

- BEDDING
- Linens such as sheets, towels, pillowcases and blanket – NONE OF THE ITEMS ARE PROVIDED BY DORM
- Snacks
- Swimming attire
- Attire for Themed Mixer.
- Door Decorations for your dorm
- Pizza Money $10-all meals are covered under the camp fee –many campers like to order pizza at the end of the day. Also, there are vending machines in the lobby. FRONT DESK DOES NOT HAVE CHANGE

- Flip Flops or shower shoes ONLY
HAIR & ATTIRE
- Hair must be tied back and secure at all times.- No belly rings or jewelry of any sort is allowed for camp workouts.
- You must be able to stunt, stretch, dance and do whatever activity is planned safely and securely.
- Rolled shorts will not be allowed.
- Dance attire is allowed but only one layer.
CHECK OUT
- Check out will be final day of camp.- All individuals or coaches must turn in room keys at Naismith Hall
- Spirit Camp will be selling merchandise. You can visit the KU STORE for KU merchandise located on east side of Allen Fieldhouse
- Check out in Café in Naismith
When checking out of dorm please:
Gather stuff and packDouble check for Bathroom items and CHARGERS
Please pick up all trash and remove all decorations
Deposit key into key envelope that you received at check-in
Give to coach if applicable
Coach will take key packet to Café in Naismith and Check out.
Chaperones
KU team members will be staying on each floor of the dorm – they will escort participants to and from facilities. Dorm will have occupancy of cheerleaders mainly. Males are isolated on top floors. Curfews are set and all participants and coaches will adhere to curfews.
SPECIAL EVENTS
- Camp Mixer - We are hosting a themed camp mixer one night at camp.- Coach's classes – not only are you able to get personal attention to your team but we are offering special classes to help you make the most of your coaching experience.
- Camp routines – this is an optional category for your team. You can bring any routine less tan 2 minutes. Our experienced staff will judge and give you constructive criticism on your routine.
VIDEO TAPING
Videos are welcome. We will also be providing DVD and CD’s of any musical routines, cheers, and chants taught at the camp.
FINAL DAY
Campers are encouraged to wear their uniforms for the camp performance. Awards are given for individual accomplishments. Parents are welcome.
PARKING
Parking permits will be necessary if you park outside of the Naismith Hall parking lot. Permits are $6 per day. All facilities are no more than 200 feet from dorm and all campers will be escorted by camp staff to and from dorms.
FORMS
ALL WAIVERS AND PHYSICAL SCREEN EXAM MUST BE TURNED IN BEFORE ANY CAMPER IS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE.D All forms are due June 15 with the exception of the Medical Form, which can be turned in at check-in. In lieu of the Screening Exam form, you may submit proof of a phycial with in 1 year prior to camp. No participant will be permitted to participate without proof of physical. Copies of front and back of insurance cards are also required. If participant's last name is different from parent, please designate child's name on card copy.
FEES
Lost keys will have a $50 charge for each lost key. NO EXCEPTIONS.
TRAINER
Our camp will be providing 2 first-response trainers. All coaches or individuals should bring an insurance card or copy for any possible injury that might result in our staff taking a camper to Watkins Health Center or Lawrence Memorial Hospital. All INDIVIDUAL campers should also have an insurance card or a copy. In addition to Insurance Cards, please notify your coaches or camp trainers of any Medical Alerts that we should be aware of.

On-Site Laundry Facilities
Laundry, equipment is located on the first floor. This facility is open 24 hours daily for your convenience.
Vending Machines
A full line of vending machines is located on the first floor.
Anschutz Pavilion
Located next to Allen Fieldhouse This facility is in walking distance from Naismith Hall across the street. Parking for visitors in lot located northwest of Allen Fieldhouse off of Irving Hill Road. Sunday you will not need parking permit or pay for parking.
Student Recreational Center
Located in the rear of large parking lot next to Naismith Hall.
PARKING
KU Parking Services will be ticketing Monday-Friday (7 am-6 pm). To avoid a ticket please park in the parking garage located on the North side of AFH. The KU Spirit Camp is not responsible for parking tickets.
ROOMING ASSIGNMENTS
Every effort will be made to honor roommate requests, but they are not guaranteed. Only 2 campers per room will be allowed. If no roommate is designated on the camp application then roommates will be assigned according to grade level.
Camp Behavior
The camp staff and I want to ensure that all have a GREAT time at our camp. We stress that safety is key, learning is second and FUN is above all the most important!! We stress this is not a competitive camp and we encourage all to make new friends and help support one another. All participants will follow rules and regulations of camp and dorm. Any violation of rules could result in camper being sent home.
Payment
We will only accept cash, check or money orders for payment ---no credit cards will be accepted. Final Payment must be made 1 week prior to camp start.
FAQs
Can I pick up my daughter/son for a few hours during camp if he has another
activity that he has to go to?
Yes – if you daughter/son is a boarding or day camper and they need to miss some of camp, at check-in
let them know the day and time that you will need to pick them up.
What can a day camper do during his lunch & dinner break?
Meals are provided for campers and they will have a variety of things to do each afternoon
during their rest period (swimming, video games, tv, relaxing). If camper is bringing their own
meal they may eat with the rest of the campers.
Is there an airport shuttle service available if my camper is flying in from out of
state?
Transportation to and from the Kansas City International Airport is available through
Roadrunner Express. For more information about shuttle services, please contact KCI Roadrunner
Express at 1-800-747-2KCI.
How do I get to camp? (Driving directions)
From the North:
Hwy 75 South to 1-70 East. Take Exit #202 (West Lawrence). The exit will lead you to Iowa Street.
Follow Iowa Street to_19th Street and turn left on 19th Street. Proceed over hill and at intersection turn
right on Naismith Drive.- There will be a parking lot located in back of Naismith Hall
From the South:
Hwy 35 North to Emporia, Kansas. Take Exit #127 onto Hwy 335 to Topeka, Kansas. Take I-470 East to I-
70 East. Take Exit #202 (West Lawrence). The exit will lead you to Iowa Street. Follow Iowa Street to
19th Street and turn left on 19th Street. Proceed over hill and at intersection turn right on Naismith
Drive.- There will be a parking lot located in back of Naismith Hall
Can Individuals attend the camp?
Yes, this camp is set up for instruction to teams and individuals See specific camp for details on coach and parent chaperone requirements.
What is the camp fee and refund policy?
Fee - The full amount should be submitted with the application. However, a deposit of no less than 50% is allowed. Final payment for camp is due 1 week prior to camp start. No payment will be accepted at camp start. Payment is made to ROCK CHALK SPIRIT and must be by check or money order. Any checks that are returned will have a $25 fee assed in addition to full camp payment.
Refund
$50 of this is non-refundable. No
refunds will be made, except in the case of a serious medical
injury in which a note from a physician will be required. All other refunds will be processed after
camp and will be refunded with a $50 deduction. Notification of cancellation must be made 1 day prior to camp registration via e-mail or phone call to Cat Jarzemkoski 785-864-3002 or catj@ku.edu
